Marcelo H. Del Pilar Lodge No. 272

The Name

Named in honor of Marcelo H. del Pilar, considered the greatest Filipino journalist of his time, founder of Diariong Tagalog and editor of the propaganda organ "La Solidaridad." He succeeded Graceano Lopez Jaena as publisher of La Solidaridad in 1889 using "Plaridel" as his pen name. Del Pilar is also acclaimed as the father of Philippine Masonry.

The Lodge

This lodge is the handiwork of fifty-four (54) brethren from Meycawayan, Valenzuela and other towns of Bulacan who filed a petition with the Grand Lodge praying that a dispensation be issued authorizing them to form a new lodge at the heart of Meycawayan town. VW James R. Ruckman, District Deputy Grand Master, favorably endorsed the organization the new lodge in his district. On January 23, 1985, Grand Master Reynato S. Puno issued the requested dispensation and named Jaime R. Camino as the Dispensation Master, Marcelino C. Cruz, Sr. as the Senior Warden, and Bartolome O. Matela as the Junior Warden. On April 26, 1985, during the annual communication of the Grand Lodge, the lodge was granted a charter and the number 272 was assigned to it.

On June 22, 1985, Deputy Grand Master Reynold S. Fajardo constituted Marcelo H. del Pilar Lodge as a regular lodge in behalf of the incumbent Grand Master, and thereafter, the first set of elected officers, who were earlier appointed when the dispensation was issued, were installed by WB Crisostomo P. Palma and WB Rogelio J. Cachola as Installing Officer and Master of Ceremonies, respectively.

The lodge has already demonstrated its mettle - it is serving as a sturdy lodge that caters to the needs of the brethren in the province where the illustrious Marcelo H. del Pilar was born. On December 17, 1994 officers of the Grand Lodge laid the cornerstone for the proposed Temple of the lodge.
