Magdiwang Lodge No. 238

The Name

                Named after the Magdiwang council of the Katipunan headed by Mariano Alvarez, the uncle-in-law of Andres Bonifacio. At its height, the Magdiwang Council had jurisdiction over fourteen towns of Cavite and three in Batangas. Its headquarters was first established in Noveleta, Cavite. Magdiwang is the vernacular-pen name of Andres Bonifacio which means "to rejoice"

The Lodge

                The Lodge The formation of this lodge was conceived by some members of Bagong Ilaw Lodge No. 97 during a gathering at the rest house of then Junior Grand Warden Rudyardo V Bunda in Noveleta, Cavite Thirty-five Master Mason signed the petition for dispensation which was issued on September 17, 1979 by Grand Master Jolly R. Bugarin who at the same time designated the Dispensation Officers of the lodge, as follows: WB David Villaflor. Worshipful Master Bro. Aquilino H. Reyel, Senior Warden and Bro. Carlos S. Ricafrente, Junior Warden,

                While the lodge was still working under dispensation, the members elected a temple on a 600 sqm lot donated by RW Rudyardo V Bunda which was blessed on December 22. 1979. During the construction, the members did carpentry work, even as the others that included the DeMolay, attended to electrical installation and painting job.

                The Grand Lodge granted the charter of this lodge during the 54 ANCOM that was held on April 24-26, 1980 and Grand Master Manuel D. Mandac constituted it on August 16, 1980 under a very dynamic leadership Interestingly, the dedication displayed by the members in constructing their Temple and their inner personal discipline" was the subject of special praise by Grand Master Manuel D. Mandac in his report to the Grand Lodge during the annual communication held in April 1981 He said: This lodge located at Noveleta, Cavite was constituted last August 18, 1980, barely as year ago. This lodge is strong with a remarkable membership program that has netted a total membership of about 60 in a span of 1 years. It leadership is dynamic, enlightened, virtuous and dedicated. Many young professionals came into the fold of Masonry because of this leadership. The membership have advocated a Spartan personal discipline and a system of Masonic education that enlightens the new Mason in the history, philosophy, symbolism, ritual, laws and ancient landmarks of the craft As of August 16, 1980, the lodge has a new and beautiful Temple on a 600 sq. meter lot RW Rudyardo Bunda and family donated the building and lot It costs about P 400,000.00 The brethren furnished the murals, painting, furniture and other attachments to make it a modern Temple complete with facilities for meetings and socials.”
