HERALDRY
The name “KAGAY-AN”, as a word that directly relates to the City’s culture, history and people, who calls themselves, as ”KAGAY - anon”, Historical sourced revealed that KAGAY-AN Comes from the ancient word which means “River”. The original word for river is KAGAY, which when combined with “an” (place) became KAGAY,-an (river place).
Cagayan has always been pronounced by LUMAD KAGAY-ANONS as KAGAY-an, the easily recognizable word which KAGAY-ANONS all over the world, all over the country, and anywhere in Mindanao could easily refer to Cagayan de Oro, attesting to the timeliness of its original name KAGAY-an. The seal of this lodge is circular in outline bounded by an endless CABLETOW and consist of black and white mosaic in its inner circle. The whole device between the outer and inner circle is surrounded by the words “KAGAY- AN Lodge No. 385 F. & A.M.” and Cagayan de Oro City at the bottom bounded by two stars. At the center of the mosaic in the inner circle is the square and compass and the letter “G” superimposed upon them. The square bear the number 125 and directly below it is the Holy Writings parted equally with the date May 26,2009. Circular outline of endless CABLETOW -symbolizes the covenant with which all Free Masons are tied with bonds of love. Black and White mosaic –a representation of the ground floor of King SOLOMONS’ Temple and is’ Emblematic of human life checkered with good and evil. Square and compass –symbolizes lessons in conduct as “the square, to square our actions, the compasses, to circumscribe and keep us within bounds with all mankind”. Letter “G” –reminder to all Masons that God is the center of Free Masonry. 125 – The number of petitioners for this dispensation to form KAGAY- AN Lodge as new Lodge. May 26, 2009 superimposed upon the parted book of Holy Writings – serves to immortalized the date of formal constitution of KAGAY-an Lodge No. 385 as a regular lodge of Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines drawing inspiration in the Holy Writings that a “House should be built, erected to God and dedicated to His Holy Name.”
