Daet Lodge No.247
The Name
Named after the capital town of Daet in Camarines Norte. Daet is derived from the Bicol word "dai" meaning "none.
The Lodge
Daet Lodge No. 147 is a creation of Camarines Norte Lodge No. 107 whose steady growth as a lodge in the province of Camarines Norte had unwittingly created an administrative problem because its burgeoning number caused dissension and discontent during elections. Factionalism arose and the elders of the lodge resolved to create another lodge for the sake of unity and harmony among the brethren
After a hotly contested election in 1981, Bro. Tomas L.Ong, spearheaded the creation of this lodge. When he gained the active support of the brethren he boldly pushed for the creation of the new lodge. "Daet" was chosen as the name for the new lodge, a name taken from the capital town of Camarines Norte, following the example of the mother lodge, whose name was taken from the name of the province itself.
Brother Ong and his co-founders applied for a dispensation to organize a lodge on February 17, 1981 and two months later, on April 24, 1981, the lodge received its charter from the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines. Its first set of charter officers are: Thomas LOng, Santiago P. Ferrer, Jr. and Santiago M. Turingan as Worshipful Master, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, respectively. Its' stated meetings were scheduled at 8:30 PM on the 3rd Saturday of every month.
The growth of Daet Lodge has been steady, no doubt because the brethren of its mother lodge have showered it with their continued fraternal support Most of the elders of the mother lodge took out dual membership in the new lodge thus ensuring its growth and continuity.
Last October 11-12, 2002 Daet Lodge, under the leadership of its re-elected Master, Tommy Ong, DDGM Tito Collada and VW Sonny Turingan, successfully hosted the holding of the 2002 District Convention, thus proving to one and all that it is a pillar of Masonry in the Bicol region.
