East Gate Lodge No. 232

The Name
This lodge was called "East Gate" for geographical reasons. It is located in the town of Borongan, which is in the eastern extremity of Eastern Samar. The harbors of Borogan may lay claim to the title of being the east gate to the Philippines.

The Lodge
The history of the formation of this lodge is sketchy. Records show, however, that is was formed by thirty-two Master Masons who were given a dispensation on February 9, 1979 by Grand Master Desiderio Dalisay, Sr. to form a lodge in Borongan to be named East Gate Lodge. At the annual communication of the Grand Lodge held in April 1979 the lodge was granted a charter and assigned number 322.

The constitution of East Gate Lodge was attended by no less than RW Simeon Rene Lacson, Senior Grand Warden, MW Esteban Munarriz, Grand Secretary, VW Rosendo C. Herrera, Junior Grand Deacon and VW Eliseo A. Arandia, JR., Junior Grand Lecturer for District No. 1, and by delegations from
Makabugwas Lodge No. 47, Tacloban Lodge No. 221, Ormoc Lodge No. 234, Northern Samar Lodge No. 211 and Mt. Huraw Lodge No. 198. They arrived for the festivities in the early afternoon of September 22, 1979 and immediately constituted the lodge and installed the following first set of charter officers: Bros. Emmanuel Daguman, Humberto A. Montes and Almario A. Montes as Worshipful Master, Senior and Junior Wardens, respectively.
